About Morgan (She/Her)

I'm a queer, wonky maker. I've always been so. The drive to make things led me to pursuing an art degree and, while working for nearly five years as a stockbroker (yeah), I traded my paints for chocolate. The first chocolate thing I made in 2004 was, unsurprisingly enough, a truffle. Thirteen years later, Queer Chocolatier finally became reality and it’s now been 21 years since that first batch of truffles was made!

Working with chocolate in the kitchen led to other formative experiences; I pursued an undergraduate sociology degree and learned about the concept of food security. I ran with that concept to earn a master's degree. Then I went to a doctoral program and promptly became a Ph.D. dropout.

My wonkiness regarding food never waned. I'm still driven by inequalities of food access and the economic injustices faced by the very producers of our food. Such drive led to my choice in sourcing the chocolate that I do. I want to do my part to make food justice and food sovereignty a reality and Queer Chocolatier will operate with this as the True North for business practices.

I live in Muncie, IN with my wife, Kathy, and my stepson, River, and our countless animals.

About Queer Chocolatier

I launched Queer Chocolatier in 2017 to serve as a marketplace for my chocolates and to learn more about the craft of bean-to-bar chocolate-making.

I am committed to the belief that the personal is always political. That holds true for Queer Chocolatier. As a queer woman, I cannot and will not separate my identity from business. I also stand in solidarity with all of the workers in the supply chain, starting crucially with cacao farmers. Inequality is rife within the chocolate industry and I am doing my small part to work with companies and growers to source cocoa beans as wisely and ethically as possible. Our positive, collective impact will grow as support for all craft chocolate-makers, including Queer Chocolatier, grows.

Our mission is deliciously radical: We strive to provide high-quality handmade chocolate confections while also standing in solidarity with queer and trans folks.

At Queer Chocolatier, we are unapologetic in who we love and in who we are. We provide indulgence for all.
